SHUYU YI  (Abel)

ABOUT ME

My name is Shu Yi, but you can call me Abel.  Currently based in New York and pursuing my MFA in Communication Design at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn—graduating in 2026.

I work at the intersection of culture, music, and youth communities. Throughout my past experience, I have collaborated with emerging and established artists, musicians, and cultural collectives—creating design that amplifies their presence and influence. I am not only a participant in youth culture, but an active creator shaping it.

My practice focuses on system-driven brand design and multi-modal visual identity, expanding across static and dynamic formats. I integrate new tools, software, and emerging technologies—2D, 3D, motion, and generative systems—to evolve my design language in parallel with cultural and technological change.

At the core of my work is a belief that design should be alive—responsive to time, culture, and people. I create visual experiences that are powerful, shareable, and resonant for young audiences, whether in commercial contexts or artistic spaces. I find fulfillment in designing for others—elevating their voice, translating their energy, and building visual systems that help them be seen.
